Hometings is a curated homewares collection, with individual products sourced from all over the world (from Buenos Aires and Brussels to my small town in Florida). You can browse and buy here. Every other week, I'll send you three favorite tings: a Hometings product, an outdoor space & an indoor space.
This week, we are in Greece spending the New Year with family on Rhodes. In true Greek fashion our indoor/outdoor recommendations are blurred between the lines of both. Our outdoor space is a thermal springs resort dating to 1929, our indoor space is an Archeological museum with fantastic gardens. Pivoting to elsewhere in Europe our Hometings feature is a book on French design from 1945 - 1975.
An outdoor space: Kallithea Springs
Kallithea Springs is a thermal spring complex where in summer there is a beach bar serviced with nice cabanas and a cafe along a rocky coastline where you can swim. As it was winter and closed, we had the whole place to ourselves, just us and the cats for a completely different experience: to fully admire the incredible art deco architecture. The buildings surrounding the springs were built in the 1920’s by the Italians who occupied the island, later on movies where filmed there and because of the history it felt almost necessary to go in the off season to truly appreciate the architecture with no crowds.

An indoor space: New Years Day at Taverna Paraga
After breakfast we usually only ate one meal, with many shared plates, good conversation, red/white and usually during a late lunchtime. Every meal was so fantastic, that it was hard to decide which was best so I judged it by how much I wanted to cry tears of joy while eating and because I think we all shed at least one tear during our New Years day meal at Taverna Paraga, this wins. Taverna Paraga is in the tiny village of Apollona – up in the hills and a bit of a drive from Rhodes but it’s such a well rounded outstanding experience that it is worth the trek (and it is something most people living in the city of Rhodes town do every weekend, support the tavernas in the countryside). Taverna Paraga serves only local food, everything is served in traditional terracotta tableware and it has a super charming interior which includes baskets hanging from the ceiling that hold the complimentary dessert that are pulled down when the meal is finished. Delightful all around!

Hometings: Mobi Boom: L'explosion du design en France, 1945 - 1975
This design book is fun fun fun x10. I loved not reading the captions (alas its in French) and just admiring the outstanding furniture and design that played a part in postwar France- I discovered so many amazing gems like the Charlotte Perriand Ombra Tokyo Chair.
